Amsterdam Art Week: 17 - 27 June. Artist Talk Monty Richthofen: Thursday 17 June, 16.00-17.00. Reservations: [email protected]
The artistic practice of Leipzig-based artist Monty Richthofen is rooted in his interest in prose poetry and aphoristic language, which he visualises in form of tattoos, graffiti in public spaces and paintings on canvases. Between Empty Fields is an installation that immerses the spectator into his inner world, as Richthofen leaves no possibility to avoid a physical interaction with the piece. It is an intimate confrontation with the artist and his work.
The exhibition is completed by a series of collages on canvas that reflect on the current shift in self-perception in contemporary society. A diary-like collection of thoughts and phrases responds to the effects of the global pandemic.
Shared experiences and thoughts can be considered as the quintessence of Richthofen’s work. The artist highlights the continuous confrontation with one’s thoughts by tearing the drawings apart and painting them over.
This exhibition is created in collaboration with Josilda da Conceição Gallery.
