Erik de Bree - Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

07 Sep - 19 Oct 2019

TORCH gallery

more info >

This solo exhibition will be the season's opening and the first collaboration between artist Erik de Bree and TORCH gallery. During the summer, De Bree worked hard on new works, continuing his signature series 'Wallpaper paintings'. After gluing layers of different wallpapers on panel, he starts to tear off scraps, resulting in a composition that is subject to chance. Just like the word 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' in the song from the musical film Mary Poppins, the works are a combination of  independent segments, glued together to flow into this feeling of giddiness and joy.

Raul Marroquin - Raul Marroquin's Most Dreaded Canto's of Inferno

06 Jul - 27 Jul 2019

TORCH gallery

more info >

We proudly present 'Raul Marroquin's Most Dreaded Cantos from Dante's Inferno', a solo exhibition at TORCH gallery. Based on the famous first part of one of the world's greatest works of Western literature, Marroquin created works made of different media, from video to drawings to readymades to his self named 'composites'. Acknowledged worldwide for his video art, the Colombian born artist had ideas for these works since 1966, and continued working on these over the last fifteen years. Being one of the leading artists of the Fluxus and conceptual art movement in The Netherlands during the sixties and seventies, this involvement is unmistakable to this day. The exhibition shows how Marroquin still knows how to tell a convincing story with the most subtle artistic means.

Line Gulsett - Social Media Solitude

25 May - 29 Jun 2019

TORCH gallery

more info >

We proudly present ‘Social Media Solitude’, the third solo exhibition of Line Gulsett with TORCH

gallery. Like in her earlier works, the new paintings and drawings in this show cover our modern state of mind, one that is distracted by a constant stream of images and information. While being more connected than ever, people feel more alone than ever. It is commonly accepted that social media plays a large part in this distress. Gulsett takes this lost connection to reality and its causes to create images that force us to contemplate our solitude.

Eelco Brand - Randomized

06 Apr - 18 May 2019

TORCH gallery

more info >

We are pleased to announce 'Randomized', the new solo-exhibition by Eelco Brand at TORCH gallery. Opening on 6 April, it consists of new animation video works and sculptures, prints and drawings. All are made with 3D-modeling and digital techniques. While the digital videos refer to the physical world by simulations of moving nature, the rest of the artworks contrarily emphasizes the immateriality of the digital world. No matter what medium used, all that Brand makes, comes from a computer-generated, digital reality: forms and depictions are build from scratch to the wishes and specifics of its maker.

Teun Hocks - Day In, Day Out / Dag in, dag uit

23 Feb - 30 Mar 2019

TORCH gallery

more info >

We are pleased to announce ‘Day In, Day Out’, the new solo exhibition of Teun Hocks at TORCH gallery. Opening on Saturday 23 February, it consists of ten new photo-paintings that Hocks made during the last two years. He is known for his humorous self-portraits, where he uses oil paint to hand colour the black and white photos he made with an analogue camera. Since the 1980s his working method has been consistent, and this new series proves that Hocks fantasy is as lively as ever. An overview of his work since the early beginnings to his latest work can be seen at the exhibition ‘Early to Late’ at Stedelijk Museum Breda, coinciding with the show at our gallery. Together with the museum, we published a new catalogue, available in the gallery and the museum.
